A step down transformer is a type of electrical device that reduces the voltage level of an electrical supply. It contains two sets of coils, known as the primary and secondary windings, which are wound around a core made of magnetic material. When an alternating current (AC) flows through the primary coil, it induces a changing magnetic field in the core, which in turn creates a voltage in the secondary coil. The Electrolysis of Water TLM is a scientific teaching aid used to demonstrate the chemical decomposition of water into hydrogen and oxygen gases using electricity. The setup typically consists of a power supply (battery or DC source), electrodes (graphite or platinum), electrolytic solution (water mixed with a small amount of acid or salt to increase conductivity), and two inverted test tubes for collecting gases.

When electric current is passed through the solution, hydrogen gas is released at the cathode and oxygen gas at the anode. The volume of hydrogen collected is twice that of oxygen, showing the 2:1 ratio in the chemical composition of water.
